Numerous opinions for a successor have come forth since news of Pastor Chan's departure broke out. Who indeed will lead PGMBC into a new era?

Pastor Chan has undoubtedly made an immense contribution to Pacific Grace in the last twenty years. He has helped us grow from one single PG to a family of PG churches throughout Greater Vancouver. PGMBC has come a long way in these twenty years, and we need a new leadership that not only understands our present situation, but also guides us toward a new vision.

To build a spiritual leadership that best meets the needs of our church, the Deacon Board has established a Pastoral Search Committee (PSC) to develop and implement a plan of action.

The role of the PSC is not limited to hiring a replacement for Pastor Chan. Its main task is to address the overall pastoral needs of our church, including the needs of our English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Children ministries. The Board hopes that the PSC will conduct a ministry needs assessment, propose a pastoral configuration on the basis of the results, and start a hiring process to get the desired staff complement.

This is no easy task for the few individuals that sit on the Committee. This important endeavor must be borne by the whole church. The PSC feels that it is only through the support and participation of the membership at large that it can discern the Lord's will for us.

The PSC will therefore focus the next several weeks on interviewing our pastors, deacons, and departmental chairs, and inviting comments from the congregation. It is hoped that the proposed pastoral configuration and future hiring plan will be based on a good understanding of our broader needs.
